Good to know
Built in the 1700s from sandstone, the fort faces the ghats across the river. Inside, a museum displays carriages, vintage cars, weapons, clothing and astronomical clocks.
A road crosses the river, but a boat from the main ghats gives better views of the skyline and then lets you continue by road.
By road you cross the Ganga bridge and the drive is around 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. Many visitors take a boat from the main ghats and then walk or take a vehicle to the fort.
The fort is known for the Ram Leela performed by local artists during the Dussehra period. Check timings and closing hours before you go, as the museum closes in the afternoon.
