Good to know
The Dhamek Stupa and the ruins around it mark the site of the first teaching. The nearby archaeological museum houses the Ashoka lion capital, which became the national emblem of India.
Two to three hours covers the site, museum and a temple visit. It combines easily with a morning at Sarnath and an afternoon on the ghats.
Sarnath is about 30 to 45 minutes by car from the city. Taxis, auto-rickshaws and private cars all go there. It combines well with a morning at the ghats.
